The event kicked off with a brief dive into the three key drivers of fall injury prevention: identifying high risk, vulnerable populations; preventing delirium and functional decline through mobilization; and engaging of patients and families.
We then heard from three hospitals who shared the strategies that led to their success in preventing injuries from falls and immobility. First, we learned about Lea Regional’s "Safety Watch" program focused on injury prevention with elders. Then, listened to Catholic Medical Center share their nurse driven mobility program that optimizes engagement of all involved parties. Lastly, we heard about Navicent Health’s pilot program with patient safety volunteers to round on high fall risk patients to conduct environmental scans for auditing.
